The purpose of this report is to analyze the state of the conversation about coordinated online actions, addressing different sources of information and case studies in several Latin American countries, including Venezuela, Brazil, El Salvador, Mexico and Colombia. From this, we offer some insights into the challenges of these inauthentic campaigns and their relationship with the community norms of digital platforms such as Meta, Twitter (X), TikTok and YouTube.
This exercise is not exhaustive nor does it pretend to make an in-depth inventory of other aspects such as academic research or methodological challenges. Thinking of offering an input for civil society organizations, Linterna Verde focused on relevant works of these actors, as well as some media. Ultimately, we seek to encourage a debate on the phenomenon we have observed and its usefulness in promoting a more democratic digital environment.
